The Saint John’s Bible: A Work of Art

In 1998, Saint John’s Abbey and University, Collegeville, MN, commissioned a calligrapher to produce a hand-written, hand-illuminated Bible. Using ancient traditional materials such as hand-ground pigments, Chinese stick ink, goose and turkey quills, and calf-skin vellum, the work of sacred art was 13 years in the making. The result is described as the calligrapher’s Sistine Chapel. Read more.
