It's said that almost 60% of those in American evangelical churches believe many religions can lead to eternal life. But how can that be when Jesus says no one comes to the Father except through him? An exclusive Jesus isn't popular in an inclusive world. Can people be saved who've never heard of Christ? Do children automatically go to heaven? Can people serve God without knowing it? Bible Gateway interviewed Dr. Robert Jeffress about his book, Not All Roads Lead to Heaven: Sharing an Exclusive Jesus in an Inclusive World (Baker Books, 2016). Read this interview.

One year ago, the world lost a remarkable minister of the gospel to a tragic car accident. This man ministered daily to countless thousands of people in the course of his career. In this 15th lesson about studying the Bible, pastor and author Mel Lawrenz says, "Serious Bible study will always involve reading the insights we gain from commentaries on the Bible. There are different kinds of commentaries for different purposes, and we ought to use them at select times in the process of study, but the use of commentaries is essential." If you want to study the Bible better, read this installment of his series on our Blog and encourage your friends and followers to receive it by email.

The “Pauline epistles”—letters written by the influential apostle Paul—are particularly central to Christian belief. Join us each Monday during Lent as we take a look at a different epistle. The second letter on our tour is the book of 1 Corinthians. Paul uses harsh words in this letter. He must have been writing to the pagans who lived in the city of Corinth, right? Wait—what? He was writing to the Christians? Read more.
There are many examples of justice-related stories, commands, and rebukes in the Bible. But there are also many parts of the Bible that we don't associate with justice. A new Bible hit bookstore shelves this week: the NIV God's Justice Bible (Zondervan, 2016). Alongside the regular text of Scripture, it has hundreds of notes from an international group of Bible scholars, all of which aim to explore the concept of justice in every book of the Bible. You can download the complete book of Ruth, with commentary by Kenyan scholar Emily J. Choge-Kerama, to get a sense of its approach. Read more.

Bible scholar Scot McKnight, in his contribution to Devotions on the Greek New Testament: 52 Reflections to Inspire & Instruct (Zondervan, 2012), writes: "In clear, terse, and potent language, Jesus clarifies his posture toward the Torah and reveals how we are to live in the age of fulfillment. Our discipleship is rooted in a singular claim: Jesus is the messianic completion of the entire history of God’s ways with Israel (the Law and the Prophets). Discipleship is about living under the teachings of the Messiah." Read the rest of this book excerpt.
